In “The Right to Choose” by the Los Angeles Times, the author wants the reader to know that pregnant women should have the right to chose whether or not they want to keep their baby and it’s unfair when people and hospitals make it harder for them to have an abortion. One thing he does to prove this is that he writes a lot about Texas, a state that is making it very difficult to for young women to have an abortion. Also, he shows that many states are making abortion illegal after the woman is pregnant for 20 weeks. This clearly makes it even harder for women to have an abortion. In addition people want abortions to no longer be included with taxes. This makes them a great deal more expensive so many women just can’t afford them. Fortunately, they haven’t done this yet.

The author wants to persuade people to be more aware of the fact that so many people are trying to make abortions illegal.  She believes that women should get to have a choice on whether or not to keep their baby. She believes that it is completely unfair to rely on the government to make this kind of important decision.  The main way that she does this is by writing about a city in Texas. They made a law that stated it would be illegal for women to have an abortion after twenty weeks of pregnancy, yet, they make the women wait a long time before they are allowed to have the abortion. One way that they make women wait is by forcing them to have two visits to physicians who usually try to convince them to not do the abortion by giving them shockingly inaccurate information. In addition, there is only one doctor who, “Is an out-of-state doctor who flies in a couple of times a month.” Texas is making it very hard for women to have an abortion. The author wants to educate people about this problem so more states don’t end up like Texas.

I completely agree with the author. I think abortion isn’t murder at all and it is the mother’s choice, not the government. I think that abortions are very personal decisions. It should be mainly just between the woman’s family and partner. It’s unfair to get the government involved in it as well. I also think that it is unjust how hard Texas is making it for women to have abortions, and Texas is not the only state! Also, rape is a huge social issue in the US and it would be so hard to deny a young woman of having an abortion when it will help her in so many positive ways. I also think that in some cases, having a baby that a women can’t possibly take care of could ruin her life, it is just unfair not to give her the option.
